Solotech Announces New Strategic Shareholders
François Ménard, President and shareholder of Solotech, has announced three new strategic financial partners for the company: Claridge, Capital régional et coopératif Desjardins, and Investissement Québec. These changes are part of a reorganization of the company’s share ownership that also includes the departure of some major shareholders, namely one Quebec-based institutional investor and Denis Lefrançois, Co-President and one of the main architects of Solotech from its beginnings in 1977.
Ménard comments, “The addition of these three major investors coincides with the company’s plans to expand, through organic growth and acquisitions, and its global ambitions.”
Marie-Claude Boisvert, COO for Capital régional et coopératif Desjardins (CRCD), adds, “The enviable position and reputation Solotech has established in its industry are in large measure why we are participating in this transaction. With this partnership, CRCD is pursuing its main mission of offering flagships of the Québec economy leverage to accelerate their growth and create quality jobs.”

Sounds Launches New Microh DJ Line
Sounds Distribution has introduced its brand new Microh DJ line, a segment of its Microh Professional Products line, with the goal of continuing to grow its DJ business. Initially, the line will be comprised of lighting products for DJs and mobile performers.
“We’ve done very well with Microh Professional because of how competitive we can be with our pricing,” comments Rohan Persaud, President of Sounds Distribution. “Based on that success, we’re launching our Microh DJ line.”
According to Persaud, the line will offer dealers and end users similar products to those offered by major manufacturers of mobile DJ lighting products at pricing below what’s available in the U.S. market. “We’re trying to be more competitive with our pricing to bring more value and comparable performance to DJs,” he adds.
ALT-J Tours With New Elation CUEPIX Panel
To create a lighting experience as unique as British indie rock quartet ALT-J’s music, lighting designer Jeremy Lechterman used the brand-new CUEPIX Panel from Elation Professional, which features COB (chip on board) LED technology.
“I wanted to create something dreamy and airy, but also very angular and aggressive,” explains Lechterman. “The end result was an almost exclusively backlit show, allowing the band’s silhouettes to float through the haze, while pulsing patterns and rhythms dance across the upstage wall.”
Matt Talent of tech supplier Felix Lighting suggested using the CUEPIX Panel in place of a tungsten matrix. Featuring 25 30-watt three-in-one RGB COB LEDs and a 60-degree beam angle, the CUEPIX Panel’s COB technology provides improved performance and reliability compared to surface mount (SMD) LEDs.
