Andrew here, reporting from Solotech’s En Coulisse trade show, happening today and tomorrow at the Palais des congres in downtown Montreal. The show kicked off with a major announcement today – that Solotech has officially opened Sales & Integration division offices in both Vancouver and Halifax, giving the sound, lighting, and video mammoth a literal coast-to-coast reach. For the full story on that, click here.
I arrived at the convention centre good and early to get the latest copies of Professional Lighting & Production and sister publication Professional Sound set up for attendees. The show didn’t officially open until 10, though there were already swarms of curious production technologies professionals outside of the hall when I arrived.
In addition to the latest technologies being showcased by suppliers to the Canadian live sound, recording, broadcast, A/V, lighting, video, digital signage, and DJ markets, Solotech spared no expense in showcasing what its capable team and expansive inventory can deliver to an event. Swirling shapes in bright colours were dancing across the walls and ceiling while the sounds of everything from The Hobbit to AC/DC swelled throughout the room.
What’s impressive about this year is that, having expanded exhibit space by 30 per cent over last year’s edition, the show is already planning another expansion for 2014 to accommodate for even more of a demand on space.
Also notable about this year is the return of the conference programming, with no less than five conference rooms hosting educational content from various areas on both days of the show. Cheers to Pierre Landry for his efforts in restoring that aspect of the show.
We’ll be back with more from Day 1 as things wind down later this evening. Still plenty to see…
