Tour Teach East, the Dartmouth, NS-based sound, video, and lighting provider for concerts and events, was forced to the brink of bankruptcy back in August of this year following a series of financial woes that included one of its creditors, the Business Development Bank of Canada (BDC), calling in a loan and then taking ownership of the company’s building. Now it has been announced that Tour Tech East has found a new owner in O’Regan’s Properties Ltd., but company founder Peter Hendrickson will remain company president.
Sound designer John Leonard, scene designer Anna Louizos, costume designer Joy Emery, and theatre safety educator Monona Rossol will be honoured with USITT Distinguished Achievement Awards at USITT’s 2016 Annual Conference & Stage Expo in Salt Lake City next March.
USITT’s Board of Directors approved the awards at a recent meeting in Salt Lake City. Every year, USITT recognizes a few people whose careers have advanced the performing arts and live entertainment industry.
Sounds Distribution has announced that it has been appointed as the exclusive Canadian distributor for Avolites.
A manufacturer of lighting controllers, Avolites is best known for its Tiger Touch II, Quartz, and Titan Mobile products. Sounds Distribution President Rohan Persaud says the company will soon be releasing a dealer price guide for Avolites.
This Monday, Aug. 31st, is the last day that visitors can pre-register for free entry to PLASA Show 2015, one of the largest annual business events for the live entertainment technology industry. Organizers say international pre-registrations are at their highest level since the show moved to ExCel on London, England in 2013, with registrations coming from over 90 countries so far.
Solotech has announced that Claude Regimbald has been appointed as the company’s director of business development, Quebec territory.
Regimbald founded Specs Audio in 1979, a company he successfully led for over 30 years. Following the acquisition of Specs Audio by Solotech in 2012, Claude spent three years as general director of the Solotech office in Gatineau and Ottawa. As part of his new role, Régimbald will be responsible of developing new market segments and collaborating with the Montreal, Quebec, and Saguenay sales teams.
From October 8-10, 2015, the International Association of Lighting Designers (IALD) will host IALD Enlighten Americas 2015 : The International Year of Light. This year’s three-day conference, held at the Baltimore Hilton, will be tailored to themes raised by UNESCO’s International Year of Light and Light-Based Technologies (IYL2015) and will showcase current issues and trends impacting the work of architectural lighting designers.

The Government of Ontario has announced that it is supporting live theatre in communities across the province to build interest in arts and culture, create jobs, and strengthen local economies.
Soulpepper Theatre Company will receive $1.5 million over four years to create a permanent touring repertory theatre. The touring theatre will create approximately 100 new jobs for theatre professionals, grow local theatre audiences, and boost tourism revenue and economic activity related to live theatre, according to the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Sport.
SFM has announced the addition of Randy Segeren to its Pro Division sales team. Segeren will be leading SFM’s sales for the lighting and multimedia portfolio in Ontario.
