PLASA passThis Monday, Aug. 31st, is the last day that visitors can pre-register for free entry to PLASA Show 2015, one of the largest annual business events for the live entertainment technology industry. Organizers say international pre-registrations are at their highest level since the show moved to ExCel on London, England in 2013, with registrations coming from over 90 countries so far.

Solotech Names Claude Régimbald as Director of Business Development, Quebec Territory

Claude RegimbaldSolotech has announced that Claude Regimbald has been appointed as the company’s director of business development, Quebec territory.

Regimbald founded Specs Audio in 1979, a company he successfully led for over 30 years. Following the acquisition of Specs Audio by Solotech in 2012, Claude spent three years as general director of the Solotech office in Gatineau and Ottawa. As part of his new role, Régimbald will be responsible of developing new market segments and collaborating with the Montreal, Quebec, and Saguenay sales teams.

IALD To Host Enlighten Americas Conference

This year’s three-day conference, held at the Baltimore Hilton, will be tailored to themes raised by UNESCO’s International Year of Light and Light-Based Technologies (IYL2015) and will showcase current issues and trends impacting the work of architectural lighting designers.

Ontario Investing $1.5 Million in Live Theatre Across the Province

SouPepperThe Government of Ontario has announced that it is supporting live theatre in communities across the province to build interest in arts and culture, create jobs, and strengthen local economies.

Soulpepper Theatre Company will receive $1.5 million over four years to create a permanent touring repertory theatre. The touring theatre will create approximately 100 new jobs for theatre professionals, grow local theatre audiences, and boost tourism revenue and economic activity related to live theatre, according to the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Sport.

CITT To Celebrate 25th Anniversary At Rendez-vous 2015

01CITTThere will be cause for celebration when CITT’s annual Rendez-vous conference and trade show heads to Vancouver from August 20-22, 2015, as this year marks the association’s 25th anniversary.

In 1989, a group of like-minded individuals from the USITT sections in Alberta and Ontario gathered to form what would, on Aug. 1, 1990, become the Canadian Institute for Theatre Technology. Spurred by an era of increased regulations in Canada around such things as safety standards and the use prop guns, as well as increased recognition of the different theatrical cultures between the U.S. and Canada, Canadian theatre professionals agreed they would be better served by having their own national organization.

“And so it began, 25 years of growth and service to our members,” current CITT President Michael Harris tells Professional Sound. “We are excited to celebrate 25 years of milestones and the achievements of our members. At this year’s Rendez-vous in Vancouver, we begin the next chapter, the next 25 years of milestones and achievements. Join us as we celebrate our humble beginnings, our members, and the promise of an exciting future for CITT/ICTS.”

Rendez-vous 2015 will be hosting a larger trade show with longer visiting hours over a two-day span at the Vancouver Convention Centre. Pre-conference workshops will be replaced with hands-on training and backstage tours. The Education Forum and Roadhouse Roundtable discussions will be moved to Saturday, while the Annual General Meeting will become an AGM Breakfast on Saturday. As usual, the New Product Breakfast will kick off the Friday morning. The social events will remain the same, with the Junk Challenge on Thursday, Swag Bingo on Friday, and the Awards Banquet on Saturday.
